Gomoku: Five Stones in a Row is a strategic board game for two participants. On a square grid measuring 19×19 (in the classic variant) or 15×15 (in the contemporary sports variant) points, players alternately position stones of two hues. The victor is the individual who first establishes an unbroken line of five stones of their color either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. There are numerous variations, differing in specific aspects of the rules. The game is thought to have originated in China over two millennia ago. Presently, the game is recognized worldwide; competitive events are organized around it.
